Though they’re not new, Set Boosters and the additional goodies from “The List” still confuse players occasionally. The inclusion of something unexpected often leads players to post questions online, concerned about their pack’s legitimacy. A recent post about pulls from a Set Booster pack of Wilds of Eldraine, asked if the divorce papers they received were supposed to be there.
“I don’t even know how they fit,” said the poster. “There’s about twenty pages here. When I posted the divorce papers online people were really condescending and encouraged me to look up what Set Boosters included and what “The List” meant. I mean, I am aware what the list is and what Set Boosters are, but why would Wizards of the Coast include divorce papers specifically from my wife?”
The wife of the redditor explained how her soon to be ex-husband received his papers in such an unexpected way.
“We both knew it was coming. Our relationship just isn’t what it used to be,” said the poster’s wife, choosing to remain anonymous. “Even though I wouldn’t expect him to do anything harsh once the paperwork was handed to him, I thought it was best to find a way serve him through a third party. I found a company online who specializes in inserting divorce papers into places they know husbands will find them. For Matthew they were positive if they put them inside a pack of Magic: The Gathering Set Boosters there would be a 100% chance of him successfully finding them. Best money I ever spent.”
The company, Gotcha!, specializes in serving divorce papers for the modern husband.
“We began this company with a single vision: to serve our client’s divorce papers in a modern age,” said Gotcha! spokesperson Miles Lamert. “MTG enthusiasts are really easy. In fact, there’s no challenge there at all since you can literally slap a planeswalker on anything and they’ll open it up. Ever see those Magic: The Gathering Hot Pockets? Yeah, that was us. Our team of consultants will work with your specific needs to design a delivery system leveraging your husband’s favorite items and/or hobbies to make sure it stings just a little bit more.
“We have a whole line of specialty cans and bottles for the alcoholic husband. We’ve modified game controllers to slap husbands across the face with divorce papers the moment they press a button. Want to go paperless? We’re partnering with EA to include fully digital versions, totally legal of course, so husbands can receive word of their new relationship status when unlocking a new player for their Ultimate Team in Madden. Not to worry gentleman, we know divorce is hard, so we’ve designated divorce papers as a 99 quarterback. You’re welcome.”
Due to the growing number of clients using Gotcha!’s Magic: The Gathering delivery system, the company is in talks with local game stores around the country to issue divorce papers as a part of Friday Night Magic prizing.
