After players’ positive reaction from earning Magic Arena XP for attending in-store events, Wizards of the Coast took the idea a step further and is now offering additional XP to anyone able to talk strangers into renewing their vehicle’s extended warranty.
“Everyone told me it’s a scam,” said Magic Arena developer Samuel Smith. “But the people on the phone were very clear that my extended warranty was at risk of expiring. Good thing too as I never received the notice they sent in the mail. Man am I glad they took time out of their busy day to check up on me. It’s refreshing to hear from people who truly care.”
While some may scoff at a call from everyone’s old friend, “Scam Likely,” Smith saw a mission.
“After handing my personal information and credit card details to the trustworthy guy on the phone, I had an epiphany. My warranty had been taken care of but I couldn’t stop thinking about all the people who might be at risk of losing their vehicle’s warranty coverage. It was then l knew I had a responsibility to help others before they continued driving without drivetrain coverage.”
Smith decided to commandeer Magic Arena’s fanbase to execute his holy charge.
“We’re always looking for ways to strongarm our hopelessly addicted fans into supporting a good cause. This is just like our charitable efforts for Extra Life, but instead of sick kids, we’re helping sick cars. Having Magic Arena players spend their time helping people with their vehicle’s extended warranties is important. Of course, we’re offering Magic Arena XP for their efforts, but hope the selfless act is more of a reward.”
If successful, Smith plans on running similar events for earning Magic Arena XP, such as guiding the elderly through the oftentimes confusing process of paying off debt via Google Play gift cards.
