Local board state reeling over a recent loss cited that they’re still not in a “right place” as they passed on yet another perfectly decent permanent.
“You cultivate all these things,” said Board State, turn 15. “Creatures. Enchantments and artifacts. At first things go well. There’s some fighting but it’s amicable. There are disagreements over which spells should be allowed to resolve but in the end it’s usually for the best. You get used to it. Comfortable even. And that’s when it happens. One moment you’re mutating on to each other’s creatures and before you know it a board wipe comes and ruins it all.”
Board State went on to describe the emotional damage and trust issues arising from the chaos.
“It’s not easy for all of us to keep starting over, Craig. How many times can we pick up the pieces? I can’t keep starting over. Each time I trust less. I go in lacking confidence that new permanents won’t vanish in an instant, or sorcery for that matter. How can anyone be sure they’re not going to fall for a guy who ends up being one of those assholes who blows up lands just for the sake of ruining someone’s day?”
When asked what their plans were, they were clear that they were not looking for anything serious.
“I spend a lot of time going from token to token. You know it’s not the real thing, but it gets you by until you’re ready to try the real thing again. Eventually you learn that you have to keep going. To keep learning. Look for the signs of a Cyclonic Rift and prepare so when it happens, you’re not taken off guard. And with enough perseverance you find the one who isn’t over-reliant on planeswalkers and whose completely average win-condition is more than you’ll ever need, despite what your friends say.”
At time of press Board State was seen smiling, a pair of Sol Rings on the board along with a Tinybones, Trinket Thief and in that moment everyone knew they had made it.
