Is it a Misprint or is the Flavor Text Supposed to Chide Me About My Sugar Intake?

With so many Magic: The Gathering cards being printed on a daily basis there are bound to be printing errors that end up in final product. Depending on the severity of the misprint, these now one-of-a-kind cards can be lucrative if one is able to find the right collector willing to buy them. However, determining if a card is truly a misprint can be difficult, even when the flavor text is calling you out on your sugar intake by name.

“Maybe it’s a different Brian,” said Brian Williams, 25. “Though, I was eating a box of chocolate chip cookies when opening up set boosters so maybe it’s supposed to be like that. My friend Bobby thinks it’s just a coincidence but when he checked his copy of [c]Night’s Whisper[/c] the flavor text said it knows about the sock behind the headboard and recommended a brand of facial tissues. I’m thinking it’s not a pressing issue.”

A Wizards of the Coast spokesperson provided some clarity, hoping to alleviate any confusion.

“As some fans have noticed, we’ve decided to reimagine flavor text on recent pressings of Magic: The Gathering physical product. Though some may label deviations from the standard printing of re-pressed cards as a misprint, we can assure you that no mistakes were made in the printing process of these new cards, even if they don’t have the card’s original laser background. Rather, each card was given new flavor text to address, and provide advice on, difficult or confusing aspects of life that our fans may have in common. For example, the new pressing of Preordain inquires when the last time Paul saw the sun. We thought by using specific names it would totally freak people out since names like Paul and Brian are fairly common.”

The spokesperson went on to deliver remarks regarding the recent change to flavor text.

“The idea came about when one of our staff members kept referring to Liliana as ‘Mommy’. The company agreed that fans of Magic: The Gathering’s iconic characters may take some gentle advice to improve their quality of life if they were given by their favorite characters. Teferi, for example, provides advice for our fans who may be, at heart, massive dickheads while Nissa has helped young women come out of the closet through motivational phrases and new portraits that, as one person in R&D said, ‘makes the bitches thirsty.'”
