Thragtusk Reprints Just Not The Same Without Original Laser Background

In Magic: The Gathering, cards can be reprinted dozens of times, or never at all. Sometimes reprints contain new art for a complete reimagination by a fresh artist. Though often many MTG players find themselves gravitating toward original printings. Recently, a new poll found that many MTG players actually prefer original prints with artwork over new Masters or “Secret Lair” treatments. In particular, many fans think that Thragtusk with the original laser background is the epitome of MTG cards, and no subsequent reprint has, or ever will, top it.

“Despite being the sexiest creature in all of MTG, Thragtusk also has the best artwork ever printed. And before you ask, no it’s not just because of the laser background, though that is a large part of it. It’s about Thragtusk’s ferocity, his unwillingness to back down, and most of all, the way the lasers complement Thraggy’s beautiful eyes.”

Like all opinions, there are those who feel the need to try and disprove subjective ideas.

“Thragtusk with the laser background has no original border art, so to say it’s the most beautiful Magic card ever printed is sheer nonsense. Even if it is the most beautiful creature ever printed, until we can get the laser background on the old border it simply will remain imperfect.

However, it’s wise to remember that not all creatures had it so good as Thragtusk.

“We could never afford the upcharge for the laser background, so we had to go with the weird blue cloud background,” an Emissary from Burning-Tree said. “All my friends had a laser background, and while it may not seem like a big deal now, it really hurt at the time. I may or may not have gone back and photoshopped my old yearbooks with a laser background.”

Yes, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, but when speaking about Thragtusk we must emphasize that its beauty is objective fact. Additionally, we’re planning on a Thragtusk laser background buyout so if anyone is interested in selling off their copies, send us an e-mail along with your Thragtusk erotic fiction for review.
